WSP Sports; is focused on the wind sports of Kiteboarding and
Windsurfing.
"We have
a lotta fun around here and we hope you can join us", but we take your fun
seriously and do our best to achieve our motto. We have many, many long time
customers and friends both in our local area, as well as around the world.
We started in 1989 on top of the Water Sports Center on
Clear Lake by Lars Pardo as Windsurfing Sports. He had (2) Two harnesses, (2) boards to teach with
and sold the sport of windsurfing to anyone who would listen.
Charlie
Gioielli joined the shop in 1991 about the time the shop moved to the Hilton
Hotel and expanded the retail space. In 1993 we picked up a couple of Kayaks
to teach from and everyone started fighting over the boats so we started
selling and renting Kayaks at Mud Lake as well.
At the
end on 1993, we partnered up with Jim Whitney of Webvertising (shoot, he
didn't even have a name way back then!) to create Windsurfer.com, the first
commercial windsurfing site on the web. We also did the first pages for
Mistral, Sailworks, F2, Chinook, and many more of the top names in the
industry. Jim has sense changed names to
Whiteboard Labs, one of the
countries
Leaders in Rich Internet Application
Development.
The
kayaks
needing more space required another move in November of 1994 to our present
location, which allowed us to pick-up Surfboards and the next year
wakeboards.
After a
shop trip to Maui in October of 1998 we picked up the new “Kiteboarding”
sport and are having a blast “pioneering” this new passion to Houston and
the Gulf Coast.
Easter Sunday, 2006 was
our last day in the conventional retail business. We moved our wind sports
products into a mini warehouse in LaPorte and have been teaching
kiteboarding and suppling gear via our web presence ever since. We miss the
daily physical contact with our customers, but have been able to offer
better pricing.
